An adaptive assignment, zombie shootout, and graduation lucid dream

I had this dream that I was a student. We were all in class trying to figure out this word problem that kept evolving and growing more challenging as you figured it out. The teacher in the room wasn't paying any attention whatsoever to us and let us have at the problem. I think this was supposed to be our final assignment. I remember thinking, "I wonder if my wife is here." Sure enough, there she was, over in her group looking at her phone. I wasn't surprised. The teacher then got up, said that he was going to get some classroom supplies and asked for help. No one moved. All eyes turned towards my wife. She jumped up and went with the instructor. Everything returned to the clamor of public education and the plight of the lazy student. We were still trying to finish the problem but I decided to take a break. I got up and was leaving the classroom when broke out. Someone opened fire in the back of the classroom and bullets were whizzing by. I could see contrails left by the rounds, streaming through the crowd as everyone rushed the doors. I was the first one out since I was so close to the door already. My crew made it out and linked up outside the classroom window. "We should get in there and get 'em." At least we were all on the same page. Just as we started to go back, a large iron gate appeared in front of us and blocked our path. Instinctively, I faced my palms to the ground and launched myself towards the top, probably 20 feet or so. I latched on to the top of the gate and propelled myself over with the momentum. I peered through the window and could see a few figures crawling around in an unusual stupor. You know what that means? Zombies! I relayed the info to the rest of the crew and told them to meet me inside. They ran around to the entrance while I broke through a window. The glass shattered onto the floor and yet no zombie seemed to notice. They were all just crawling around on the floor. There were no signs of guns anyway (more on that later). I walked over to a row of three zombies. I was so confident that I just grabbed a chair and crushed it. It took a couple hits but that was one down. My posse entered and followed my proven zombie eradication technique. And just like that, although we didn't stop them from becoming zombies, we did somehow convince ourselves that we had saved the day. Standing over the mess of limbs, I wondered out loud "hmm, wonder if we'll be rewarded for this...." My crew, as self-sacrificing as always responded. One with "we did the right thing no matter what" and another with "it's all the same to me." I agreed and we left.
All of that hardwork made me hungry. It was time to grab something to eat. All of the students went to get dinner. I sat at the table and my wife had returned. She sat across from me. Everyone recounted the events of the evening and how we made quick work of the zombies. No big deal, really. Anyway, we had baked chicken and I'm sure what was supposed to be rice but it was more like white, kernelly cardboard paste. We ate nonetheless. At some point my wife got a message on her ever-present phone. Apparently another teacher was making a run to Lowe's at 7pm and needed her help. At 7pm...She got up, slid her food onto my plate and left to help. Her chicken looked more like a t-bone steak but I still ate it.
Without much warning, a curtain in the room was drawn. There was a giant stage set up and a crowd of eager parents were dispersed throughout the room. I looked for my wife. She showed up and I asked, "what could they possibly need from Lowe's at this time of night?" She didn't respond and walked away towards the student seating area. I caught up to her and asked again. This time here phone buzzed and she was reading another message. I asked her, "well, what's that about?" She didn't respond, rather she sort of grew five times her size and I could barely reach her knee as she left. "Don't worry about it. The phones already in my pocket," she said. I clearly watched her place the phone in her pocket and started to show her the contradiction but left it there. I had a few more questions for her. She sat down and I sat down in the row in front of her. We were late so we ended up with aisle seats. She had a young woman sitting next to her. My row was empty.
"Well, its now 8:30pm, ladies and gentlemen, you know what that means? how about we get started." The announcer at the graduation ceremony was beginning the show. And that's when I realized we were all "gifted". I recalled my ability. I controlled this otherwordly flame that only I could see and interact with. I couldn't use it on people but inanimate objects were fair game. That's what allowed me to propel myself into the air and maybe why I wasn't afraid of the zombies. Speaking of zombies, I think someone had special
zombie gun but lost control of it and ended up shooting themselves and some other students. I then turned and looked at my wife. Her eyes were filled with admiration for the announcer. And I thought, what's that? I now recalled her power- divinity. But there was something more there, something unnerving. I asked her what was her relationship with the announcer. No response. I asked her if they were friends. No response. I then took it a step further, I asked if she slept with him or the other faculty. She said "yes." I was disgusted, hurt, and mad. The woman beside her witnessed this and said nothing. I could vaguely make out her form since I was focused on my wife but I could see that she was oriented towards us. She wore a white dress and had mid-length hair that framed her face well. Anyway, the talk continued. "Why would you...why? You know...I love you but how could you...?" My wife's response: "It's divine. It brings me closer to my truth." "So all the "help" was that huh?" I asked. "Yeah," her face became a little twisted as she spoke. "Sometimes they would lead the way...and other times I would. I let them have me and it brought me closer to," she stopped and pointed up. She had this stupid, twisted smirk on her face and I knew this wasn't right. The person beside her was engulfed in the drama. I knew she wanted to interject but she never did.
The announcer started calling names to receive our diplomas. I was the first called. Brodgen. He kept calling. I was the class leader. Everyone was in line to receive their certificates but I simply turned around and loathsomely looked at the announcer. By the look on his face, I could tell that he knew I knew about everything now. I refused to rise from my seat. There was a slight commotion as everyone returned to their seats. They could see that I was upset. They didn't know that my flame couldn't harm them. Hell, I had just remembered that myself. I stood up and everyone stared at me. I pointed my palms downward and was jettisoned to the back of the room. I was moving at a decent pace and heading towards the camera crew. There was one camera on both sides of the aisle as I flew bye. I could see them flash in slow motion as they caught my angry face in their frame. So I hovered over them. I didn't mean to scare the audience at home, my fans and friends outside the school but maybe I did. The cameras melted away as the film crew scrambled to distance themselves. Satisfied I flew over to the door, still too high up to exit. Above the door I saw two small stained glass windows. There was something happening outside. A few dark shadows flashed through my path of sight. I saw another, crawling on the ground as two others approached from the rear and seized it. The captured shadow was dragged backwards, to my right, out of the frame. I knew what it was. Zombies! As the announcer started to make closing statements despite the burning recording equipment, my anger subsided. It was time to go to work. "Boys," I started "we got work to do." They were already on their way, no further explaining needed. "They boys are back in town," I announced. "And by boys, I mean zombies." By that time I was on my feet. I blasted out of the front doors of the church (don't ask) and I was on my way. I took a high vantage point to find the zombie boss. No luck. I flew around the neighborhood and saw several clusters but nothing major enough for me, the big boss, to take action. I saw someone really panicking on the next block over and flew in to help. When I landed, the mob was attacking so I started to blast the inanimate objects (yes, to me they count). Luckily I didn't. On further inspection, it turned out that they were just playing around. They laughed and said "trick or treat!" as they approached. There's no way it was Halloween. It was August 9th. I knew what day it was and yet....Immediately I started trying to cover my tracks. I told the entire class there were zombies. Crap! This would be a national incident at this rate! There were other cameras that caught me being so confident! My career! Was it over before I even started!? I started trying to imagine real zombies into existence. I faked the growling noise to see if something might emerge from the shadows, but nothing. I was sure that everyone was already judging my hasty action. I would be replaced as the leader and my reputation would be ruined.
Defeated I landed and walked over to two kids. They were talking about Halloween and were surprised to see Brodgen Otherflame (short for of the Otherwordly Flame) in person. They came over and asked for autographs. I obliged. I tried to explain to them that they were witnessing the end of their favorite gifted's career but they brushed it off. I told them exactly what happened but they didn't care. They told me, "our sister would love to meet you. Follow us." They tugged at my outfit. They were so persistent that I couldn't say no. We approached this 4 story apartment complex. The younger brother went around the corner ahead of us. When we turned the corner a few seconds later, he was gone. An open door was in front of us. I stopped. The older brother went through the threshold. "She's in here. Come on," he eagerly said. I saw his face yet I stepped inside. The apartment had amazing cathedral ceilings concealed by the facade of the apartment. I felt as though I had stepped into a different dimension. It was only when I stepped inside that I sensed there was something else there with us. There was something, not quite sinister but definitely not innocent by any means. And I thought to myself, this is a trap! Was that weird?
